TGO Challenge 2014 Gear List

Below is my proposed gear list for the 2014 TGO Challenge, nearly all of the kit listed is well used and well tested so hopefully it should see me through. The sleeping bag is a new item and has only been used on one trip so far but first impressions are very good. So... on to the list:

Whilst not outrageous I think I can make quite a few weight savings here and there...

Comments/suggestions welcome :-)

  1. Nice to see someone not using winner with the Trailstar. Makes it work in more pitch options and plays to its strength as a tarp/shelter. I see a good kit setup, and one that will cope with Scotland in May.

I would wait to the last minute before packing those spikes and ice axe. In the end last year we did not need them.

    1. Cheers Martin, I was unsure on bivy vs inner for a while due to fear of the midge but hoping they won't be a problem. Also hoping ice axe etc won't be needed but will decide nearer the off

  2. On all my Challenge walks and many others in May I have had no midge issues. Axe is looking less likely based on reports http://saisncairngorms.blogspot.co.uk

Snow spots: Affric Hills, Glen Coe, The Ben, Cairngorms. Gorms is the one too decide on.

    1. Still tempted to swap to the inner but I'd rather use the bivy, unless I hear reports this week that the midges are out in force I'll be sticking with the bivy

  3. Affric tops are mostly bare or threaded as of last week. The odd cornice here and there but unless there's another cold snap looks mostly avoidable with good route selection. Some midges in the glens, but not serious as yet. Good luck and enjoy the crossing matt
