Pitching the MLD SoloMid

I've just got back from a couple of days wandering around the Northern Fells of the Lake District. I took some footage on the GoPro so I'll post a bit of a trip report and video over the next week or so but for now I thought I'd post a little pitching video for the MLD SoloMid...

As you can see it doesn't take long to get pitched. There was a bit of a breeze whilst pitching so please forgive the wind noise in the video. Hope this is of use to some.

  1. Hi Matt I'm loving the look of the Solomid but I was wondering at the length of trekking poles you must use. Mine only extend to 128cm/50" maximum. Looking at the MLD site i see they state 48-52" pitch height but mention only 140cm poles. Cheers Elton.

  2. You will need 140cm poles - or pole extenders Elton to get the sides supported. SoloMid and the XL version are the best single person shelter going outside of winter use. Light, 360 protection. Open the door for 180 for views. Top shelter.

Easy to pitch as Matts video shows. Under 6ft get the SoloMid, and if over 6ft the XL.

    1. Cheers Martin, your knowledge and experience of shelters is respectable factor. Still undecided as to which shelter I'm going to go for, as every time I settle on a particular one i read something about another that strikes a cord! I think I need to go back to the drawing board and write down on paper exactly what I want from the shelter as my head is awhirl with different models. No.1 criteria when looking for a new lightweight shelter was the ability to sit comfortably inside out of the elements and unbothered by the damned biting little B*%$RDS with the option to cook whilst sat inside it - obviously in the porch.

  3. Hi Elton, I see you've opted to go with something else now but as Martin has said above. He's used the Solomid a lot and now has the XL. MLD will provide the extenders if you need them, just note in the comments section when ordering

    1. As you'll see in my reply to Martin I'm far from settled on an option Matt! As i am well under 6! at 5'8" most shelters are a good fit if not a palace. The Solomid certainly looks a good size for me. I'll be sure to ask for the extenders if I order the Solomid. Cheers.

  4. Hi matt just wondering what your reason for not using the solomid in winter are. I'm thinking of buying the xl and I wildcamp more during the winter months.
